Welcome to the fast-paced world of apparel sourcing, where leadership goes beyond mere decision-making; it’s about knowing the industry inside out. Join me in this blog, where I’ll spill the beans on my 30-year journey, starting from the bottom as a junior merchandiser and working my way up, sharing how these experiences shaped my leadership style.

Starting as a junior merchandiser was akin to getting a backstage pass to the industry. It provided a full view, equipping me with the tools needed for success. This journey boosted my confidence big time, and tackling problems at every level became second nature.
Climbing the professional ladder wasn’t just about acquiring fancier titles; it meant learning, adapting, and facing all kinds of challenges. This shaped my leadership style to be caring and flexible – crucial traits in this ever-changing space.
In my journey, I’ve navigated both growth-oriented and toxic environments. These experiences have fueled my personal and professional growth. Having firsthand knowledge of what a toxic work environment feels like drives me to embody the opposite qualities as a leader. It serves as my compass, helping me avoid limiting practices and creating an environment where my teams can truly thrive.
For emerging leaders, it’s best to learn how to efficiently manage work and not let it manage you! Set priorities, be curious, challenge norms, and bring your authentic self to work. The secret sauce for success lies in combining approachability with a laser focus on performance.
Blend confidence with humility, curiosity with experience, and authenticity with performance. As you embark on your leadership journey, remember it’s not just about climbing the ladder; it’s about learning from all experiences, at every level.
Best of luck on your journey! Stay tuned for more of my insights in the next blog.
